Wadebridge supermarket decisions will not be webcast
Following the well-attended public meeting in Wadebridge Town Hall last week I asked the Communications staff at Cornwall Council to consider webcasting Thursday’s Strategic Planning Committee meeting live from New County Hall. This is the forum which will deliberate on the Tesco, Morrison’s and Sainsbury’s supermarket applications affecting the parishes of Egloshayle, St Breock and Wadebridge.
While there appeared to be no procedural reason why this meeting should not be webcast, and the Council’s staff were quite willing to facilitate the broadcast, technical problems seem to have intervened and the meeting will not now be available on the web.
This is a great pity, as there is a high level of interest in the Wadebridge area and it would have been a great benefit to many to have been able to watch from home rather than make the round-trip to Truro. However, depending on the Committee’s deliberations tomorrow, this may not be the last we hear of these supermarket applications so there could well be another opportunity for a broader audience to see how these decisions are made.
